Publication No. 008: The Fragrance That Remains
Updated: Aug 28

A Letter from Eleanor
There are fragrances that linger long after we have left the garden.
The sweetness of a rose carried upon an evening breeze.
The faint perfume of honeysuckle along a familiar path.
Sometimes their presence remains even when the flower itself is no longer within sight.
This week, Eleanor walks through the evening rose garden and finds herself thinking about the quiet influence a life can leave behind.
Perhaps faithfulness is something like fragrance.
It does not need to announce itself loudly to be noticed.
It simply remains.
Scripture
“Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place. For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ.” — 2 Corinthians 2:14–15
Reflection
Some of the most lasting influences in our lives are also the quietest.
A kind word remembered years later.
A prayer offered when no one else knew we needed one.
A gentle act of faithfulness that seemed insignificant at the time.
We may never know how far such things travel.
A flower does not struggle to spread its fragrance.
It simply blooms where it has been planted.
And as it does, its fragrance reaches beyond itself.
Perhaps there is something beautiful for us to learn from that.
We often wonder whether what we are doing matters.
Whether our small acts of kindness are noticed.
Whether our prayers make a difference.
Whether quietly following Christ can possibly influence anyone in a world that seems to reward louder things.
But Scripture reminds us that through our lives, the fragrance of Christ can be made known.
Not because we have made ourselves impressive.
But because we have remained near Him.
The fragrance does not belong to us.
It comes from the One whose life is being formed within us.
And perhaps the most beautiful legacy we can leave is not that others remember everything we accomplished.
Perhaps it is that, because we were there, something of Christ remained.
Consider This Week
Spend a few quiet moments asking yourself:
What fragrance is my life leaving behind in the places God has planted me?
Think about the ordinary people you encounter each week.
A gentle word, a patient response, a small kindness, or a quiet prayer may seem insignificant.
But we rarely know how long its fragrance may remain.

A Keeper's Note
The branch does not struggle to create fruit.
It simply remains where life is found.
May we learn to do the same.
